Why is our HK-based business impacted?
Your Nium account, registered under a Hong Kong entity, was originally onboarded via Nium Pte. Ltd in Singapore, as Nium Limited in Hong Kong was not yet established at the time of your onboarding.
Following the launch of Nium Limited in Hong Kong, all Hong Kong-based customers are required to migrate from Nium Singapore to Nium Hong Kong. This transition will enable you to benefit from locally issued cards in Hong Kong.
What do we need to do?
There is no immediate action required from you at this stage. Our team will reach out to:
- Complete the due diligence process required to onboard you with Nium Hong Kong
- Share the Nium Hong Kong terms and conditions for your review and signature
When will these changes take effect?
Once the due diligence process is completed and the Nium Hong Kong terms and conditions have been signed, we will provide you with full details of your new account. This will include access credentials, reporting, and funding information, as well as guidance on when to begin using the new account.
Will our commercials or pricing change?
Your existing commercial terms should remain unchanged. For further information, please contact your account manager.
Will our account operate under the same model?
The new Nium Hong Kong account will operate under a charge card model. If you have questions about how this differs from your current setup, please contact your account manager.
What are the differences between our existing prepaid model account versus the charge card model?
For a detailed comparison and guidance on how the charge card model will affect your specific setup, please contact your account manager or designated support team.
Will our integration with Nium be affected?
A new API integration is required, as Nium Hong Kong operates a charge card model using our new balance-less APIs. New credentials will be issued as part of this migration. Our team will provide guidance on this as part of the onboarding process.
Will the chargeback process change?
No. The chargeback process will remain the same and will not be affected by this migration.
Will our funds be safe?
Yes. Funds are held as collateral in accordance with Clause 9 of your agreement, which sets out the full terms governing how your funds are managed.
What happens to our existing Singapore account?
Once your Nium Hong Kong account is live and available for use:
- Card creation on the Singapore account will be disabled
- All existing Singapore-issued cards will remain active during a defined grace period
- Any new deposits sent to the Singapore account will be suspended for manual review
After a grace period of six months, the Singapore account will be closed. Upon closure:
- All active cards will be cancelled and no new authorisations will be permitted
- Settlements for authorisations made prior to closure will continue as normal
- Refunds on cancelled cards will be automatically credited to the Singapore funding account
- Access will be revoked for all users except the root user, which will remain available for withdrawing funds to a pre-approved bank account
Will all of our existing currencies be supported on the Nium Hong Kong account?
Nium Hong Kong currently supports EUR, GBP, USD, and HKD. SGD, AED, SAR, CAD, JPY, THB, and CNY will be added to the Hong Kong currency portfolio, with availability expected by end of Q2 2026. If your programme relies on currencies not yet supported, please speak with your account manager who will advise on interim arrangements as part of your onboarding.
Will our funding details change?
Yes. You will be provided with new Hong Kong funding details via DBS. Once shared, we recommend updating your records and using these details going forward to help avoid any potential funding delays.
What happens if we send funds to the old Singapore funding details?
Any funds sent to the old Singapore funding details will be suspended for manual review, which may result in delays in crediting your account. To avoid this, update your records to use the new Hong Kong funding details as soon as they are shared.
Are deposit timeframes the same?
Deposit timeframes remain unchanged. Full details can be found in the Funding Guide.
What happens to our existing users and API credentials?
Users and API credentials cannot be migrated. A new Nium Hong Kong account will be created with a new root user and API credentials. Any custom user groups and additional end users will need to be re-created in the new account.
Will the business portal URL change?
Yes. The URL for accessing the business portal will change. Full details will be provided as part of your new account setup.
What happens to our reports?
All reports on your existing Singapore account will remain available for viewing and download, and will continue to be generated to reflect any remaining activity on that account.
The charge card model uses a new report structure. Card and wallet activity will all be captured within one report. For more information, please refer to https://docs.nium.com/travel/docs/reference/transaction-report.
For more information about the balance sheet report, please refer to https://docs.nium.com/travel/docs/reference/balance-sheet-report.
Will our existing purchases still go through?
If a card authorisation was completed before Singapore cards are cancelled, the purchase will still settle as normal. Any payments scheduled for a date after card cancellation will fail.
What happens to existing scheduled loads?
Once Singapore cards are cancelled, any future scheduled loads will fail.
What should we do about cards stored with merchants?
You will need to update any merchants that have your Singapore card details on file and provide them with your new Hong Kong card details.
How do we access any remaining balances on the Singapore account?
You have two options:
- Use the root user to withdraw funds to a linked and pre-approved bank account
- Request a transfer of funds from your Singapore account to your new Nium Hong Kong account by contacting your designated support team
Will future refunds be impacted?
Refunds received on the Singapore account will be automatically credited to the Singapore funding account.
What currency pairs will be supported on the Nium Hong Kong account?
Nium Hong Kong currently supports EUR, GBP, USD, and HKD. SGD, AED, SAR, CAD, JPY, THB, and CNY will be added to the Hong Kong currency portfolio, with availability expected by end of Q2 2026.
If your programme relies on currencies not yet supported, our team will advise on interim arrangements as part of your onboarding.
Will we incur any additional fees?
All applicable fees and charges are outlined in your signed contract. Please refer to your contract for full details.
